About the Winchester Model 62A

The Winchester Model 62A is an American slide-action (pump-action) .22 rimfire rifle produced from 1940 to 1958. It is the refined variant of the Model 62, introduced around serial number 98000 with minor internal mechanical changes. Chambering .22 Short, .22 Long, and .22 Long Rifle interchangeably, it uses an external hammer and a tubular under-barrel magazine, and its takedown design allowed easy disassembly. A direct descendant of the John Browning-designed Model 1890, it was widely used for small-game hunting, plinking, and in shooting-gallery service.

The Model 62 line traces directly to the John Browning-designed Winchester Model 1890, one of the most popular gallery and small-bore pump rifles ever made, and became a favorite of carnival and amusement-park shooting galleries across America.
