About the Winchester Model 70 Featherweight Compact
The Winchester Model 70 Featherweight Compact is a bolt-action hunting rifle built on the short-action Model 70 platform for smaller-framed shooters, youth hunters, and those who favor a lightweight mountain rifle. It pairs a 20-inch Featherweight-contour free-floating barrel with a satin-finish Grade I black walnut stock featuring a shortened 13-inch length of pull, classic Featherweight cut checkering, and a Schnabel fore-end. Like all modern Model 70s it retains pre-'64 controlled round feed with a Mauser-style claw extractor, a three-position safety, and the adjustable M.O.A. Trigger System.
The Model 70 has been called 'The Rifleman's Rifle' since its 1936 introduction; the controlled-round-feed action revered by hunters is the pre-'64 design that Winchester reinstated on its modern rifles.
