About the Remington Model 32

The Remington Model 32 is a 12-gauge over-under break-action shotgun produced from 1932 to the 1940s. It was one of the first machine-made over-under shotgun lines manufactured in the United States, designed to offer European-grade quality at a fraction of the imported price. The Model 32 is distinguished by its unusual top-lock action, in which a sliding plate at the top of the receiver moves rearward as the gun is opened, and by its separated barrels held together only by a ring near the muzzle to allow thermal expansion without stress. It was offered in seven grades for trap, skeet, and field use.

When Remington discontinued the Model 32, German gunmaker Heinrich Krieghoff acquired rights to the design and developed it into the Krieghoff K-32 and K-80 competition over-unders, which became dominant on Olympic skeet and trap fields long after the original Remington was gone.

Roughly 5,100 were produced before manufacture became too costly during World War II. The design directly inspired the German Krieghoff K-32 and later K-80 over-under shotguns, and Remington later revived the concept as the Model 3200.
