About the Uberti 1883 Colt Burgess
The Uberti 1883 Colt Burgess is a modern Italian-made reproduction of the original Colt Burgess lever-action rifle of 1883, the only lever-action long gun Colt ever produced. Built by A. Uberti of Italy for the cowboy-action and collector market, it faithfully recreates the Andrew Burgess design with a 25.5-inch octagonal barrel, a 15-round tubular magazine, a color case-hardened frame, and a walnut stock. Chambered primarily in .45 Colt, with .44-40 Winchester also offered, it cycles via a smooth lever action and single-action hammer.
The rifle it copies is a historical oddity: Colt built only one lever-action long gun in its entire history, the 1883 Burgess, and legend holds it was quietly withdrawn after barely two years as part of a truce with Winchester, which had begun developing revolvers to threaten Colt's handgun turf.
