About the Cimarron Model No. 3 American
The Cimarron Model No. 3 American is a top-break, single-action revolver that faithfully reproduces the Smith & Wesson Model 3 American of the 1870s, copied directly from an original in Cimarron's collection of antique firearms. Chambered in .44-40 Winchester and other period cartridges, it feeds from a six-round cylinder and features simultaneous automatic case extraction when the barrel is tipped open. Offered with 5-inch and 8-inch barrels, blued or charcoal-blue finishes, and two-piece walnut grips, it is aimed at Cowboy Action Shooting competitors and Old West collectors.
The revolver it replicates, the Smith & Wesson Model 3 American, was the first standard-issue metallic-cartridge revolver of the U.S. Army and famously carried by figures of the American frontier including Wyatt Earp and Buffalo Bill Cody.
