About the Dakota Traveler Takedown
The Dakota Traveler Takedown is a premium American takedown bolt-action rifle built by Dakota Arms of Sturgis, South Dakota, as the disassembling version of the Model 76. Its controlled-round-feed action separates into a barrel/fore-end unit and a receiver/stock unit without threads or tools, using a locking lug interface that preserves headspace and zero across repeated take-downs so the rifle can be packed into a compact case for travel. Chambered here in the dangerous-game .416 Rigby, it pairs a hand-figured walnut stock, banded front sight, and express rear sight for African and other big-game hunting.
Dakota Arms was founded in 1986 by stockmaker Don Allen and his wife Norma with custom gunsmith Pete Grisel, who blended the pre-64 Winchester Model 70 with the Mauser M98 to create the Model 76; the Traveler adapted that controlled-feed action into a tool-less takedown rifle for the traveling hunter.
