About the FABARM XLR5
The FABARM XLR5 is a 12-gauge gas-operated semi-automatic shotgun built by the Italian maker FABARM (Fabbrica Bresciana Armi). It is best known for its Pulse Piston gas system and TriBore HP barrel. The Pulse Piston uses a two-part piston combining stainless steel with a high-tech polymer section that compresses under pressure to act as a progressive, self-regulating brake, eliminating the conventional gas valve and reliably cycling a wide range of loads while cutting felt recoil. The over-bored TriBore HP barrel begins with a long forcing cone and an internal taper (roughly 0.740" to 0.725") that improves patterns and pellet velocity. Originally launched as a competition and sporting gun with an adjustable rib and trigger pull, the XLR5 has since spawned dedicated waterfowl variants.
The XLR5 carried FABARM's Pulse Piston and TriBore HP technology from the competition clays circuit into the duck blind, and its women's-fit sibling under the Syren name helped popularize properly fitted shotguns for female shooters.
