About the Pedersoli An IX Dragoons
The Pedersoli An IX Dragoons is a modern black-powder reproduction of the French Fusil de Dragon Modele An IX, a smoothbore flintlock musket carried by Napoleonic-era dragoon cavalry. Chambered for a .69 caliber (17.5mm) round ball and loaded from the muzzle, it is shorter and lighter than the standard infantry Charleville musket, with a walnut full stock, brass furniture chosen to resist corrosion from horse sweat, and double iron barrel bands to withstand the strain of mounted carry. Built by Davide Pedersoli for historical re-enactment, muzzleloader target shooting, and collecting.
Dragoons began as mounted infantry who rode to battle but fought on foot, so their muskets were built shorter and lighter than an infantryman's Charleville; the brass fittings were specifically chosen because they would not rust from the sweat of the horse.
