About the Remington Model 11-48

The Remington Model 11-48 is a long-recoil semi-automatic shotgun produced from 1949 to 1968. It was the first shotgun Remington designed entirely in-house, succeeding the Model 11, which had been a licensed copy of John Browning's Auto-5. A streamlined, lighter redesign of the recoiling-barrel autoloading mechanism, it was offered in 12, 16, 20 and 28 gauge and .410 bore across several grades. The 11-48 paved the way for the legendary gas-operated Model 1100.

The Model 11-48 holds a special place in Remington history as the first shotgun the company engineered entirely on its own; its predecessor, the Model 11, was merely a licensed copy of John Browning's Auto-5, and the 11-48's lightweight long-recoil action set the stage for the hugely successful Model 1100.
