The Weatherby Mark V is a bolt-action rifle introduced in 1958 and designed by Roy Weatherby to handle his high-velocity belted magnum cartridges. Its signature feature is a distinctive nine-lug bolt with a fast 54-degree throw and a fully enclosed bolt sleeve that surrounds the case head for added strength and gas-venting safety. Chambered in calibers up to the .300 Weatherby Magnum and beyond, the Mark V is renowned among hunters for its accuracy, deep-penetrating power, and ornate high-gloss Weatherby styling.

Roy Weatherby developed the Mark V action to safely contain the extreme pressures of his magnum cartridges, traveling to Europe in 1956 to find a manufacturer capable of building the complex nine-lug bolt that became a hallmark of Weatherby rifles.

Weatherby Mark V specifications

Early Mark V actions (1958-1959) were produced in the United States before manufacture shifted to J.P. Sauer & Sohn in West Germany, and later to Howa in Japan; production returned to the United States in the 1990s. A six-lug action was introduced in 1996 for standard-length cartridges.
