About the Winchester Super X2

The Winchester Super X2 (SX2) is a gas-operated semi-automatic shotgun chambered in 12 gauge, produced from 1999 until 2006. It used a self-adjusting active gas system that vented excess gas to reliably cycle a wide range of loads, from light 2.75-inch target shells through heavy 3.5-inch magnum waterfowl rounds, without manual adjustment. The SX2 combined an aluminum-alloy receiver, a back-bored barrel with the Invector-Plus choke system, and a ventilated rib for fast, soft-shooting handling that made it popular with waterfowlers, clay shooters, and turkey hunters. Developed jointly with FN and Browning, the Super X2 was the direct successor to the Super X1 and was itself replaced by the Super X3 in 2006.

The Super X2 carried forward the Winchester Super X autoloader lineage that began with the Super X1, and its self-adjusting gas system became a selling point for hunters who shot mixed loads in a single outing, from light dove shells to 3.5-inch goose magnums, without ever touching the gun's mechanism.

Built in Belgium and Portugal under the FN/Browning umbrella that controls the Winchester shotgun brand. The Super X2 was offered in field, 3.5-inch magnum, sporting clays, and Practical (extended-magazine, ghost-ring) configurations. It was discontinued in 2006 when Winchester introduced the lighter Super X3, which carried forward and refined the SX2's active-valve gas system.
