About the Winchester Super X3
The Winchester Super X3 (SX3) was a gas-operated semi-automatic shotgun produced from 2006 until 2018, renowned as one of the fastest-cycling and lightest-recoiling autoloaders of its era. Built by FN in Belgium, the SX3 used Winchester's Active Valve gas system, which automatically self-adjusts gas pressure to reliably cycle any load thrown into the chamber, from light target shells to heavy 3.5-inch magnums. Its .742-inch back-bored barrel optimized shot uniformity and velocity, while an ultralight alloy magazine tube and recoil-spring system shaved roughly half a pound off the gun's weight for nimble handling. The Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad, hollow and designed to collapse under recoil, combined with the gas action to make the SX3 exceptionally soft-shooting. In factory demonstrations the SX3 cycled five shells in about half a second, and a single mechanism fired 5,000 rounds without a malfunction. Available in 12 and 20 gauge across field, walnut field, compact, sporting, and waterfowl configurations.
During its launch, Winchester touted that a single Super X3 was fired 5,000 rounds without one stoppage, a durability claim that became central to the gun's reputation. Competition shooters exploited its blistering cycle rate to set unofficial speed records, emptying a full magazine in well under two seconds.

Production ended in 2018; the SX3 was directly succeeded by the SX4, which carried over the Active Valve gas system. Manufactured by FN in Belgium and imported by the Browning Arms Company. The SX3 set a competition-shooting speed record, firing 12 shells in 1.442 seconds. Its legacy as a speed-and-reliability benchmark is frequently cited in comparisons with the current SX4.
