About the Winchester Model 677

The Winchester Model 677 is a single-shot, bolt-action .22 rimfire rifle introduced in 1937 as a scope-equipped version of the popular Model 67. It carried integral telescopic-sight bases machined into the barrel and was supplied from the factory with a Winchester 2.75-power or 5-power scope, dispensing entirely with iron sights. Chambered interchangeably for .22 Short, .22 Long and .22 Long Rifle, it was otherwise identical to the plain Model 67. Poor sales during the Depression led Winchester to drop the model after only about a year of production, leaving it the rarest of the company's single-shot rimfire rifles and a prized collector's item today.

Born of Winchester's brief 1930s flirtation with affordable factory-scoped rimfires, the Model 677 was a Depression-era sales failure that vanished almost as soon as it appeared. Its scarcity has since inverted its fortunes: an original 677 in good order commands many times the value of the humble Model 67 it was based on.
