About the Winchester Model 68

The Winchester Model 68 is a single-shot, bolt-action .22 rimfire rifle produced from 1934 to 1945. Nearly identical to the cheaper Model 67 but fitted with a receiver-mounted aperture (peep) sight, it chambered .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle interchangeably, with an optional .22 WRF chambering offered from 1938. The action must be manually cocked after closing the bolt, and each cartridge is loaded singly into the chamber, making it a popular inexpensive training and small-game plinking rifle.

A Depression-era companion to the Model 67, the Model 68 was Winchester's entry-level target-sighted single-shot .22, prized by youth shooters and small-game hunters for its simple, rugged manually cocked action.
