About the Remington Model 1894

The Remington Model 1894 is a hammerless side-by-side double-barrel shotgun and was Remington's first hammerless double gun. Built on a boxlock action derived from the Andrew Whitmore patent, it features a case-hardened receiver, a top break lever, a tang-mounted automatic safety, and double triggers. It was offered in 10, 12, and 16 gauge with barrels of roughly 26 to 32 inches in either fluid (ordnance) steel or Damascus, and in multiple quality grades from A through Special Trap. Optional automatic ejectors were available.

The Model 1894 marked Remington's transition into the hammerless double-gun era. In 1910 Remington wound down its break-action line (Models 1889, 1894, 1900, and 1902) in favor of the new repeating shotgun designs of John M. Browning and John D. Pedersen.

Serial numbers ran roughly from 100,000 to 142,000. Higher grades featured progressively finer engraving, wood, and finish. Damascus-barrelled examples are not considered safe with modern smokeless ammunition.
