About the Remington Model 1900 KE Grade

The Remington Model 1900 KE Grade is a side-by-side double-barrel, break-action hammerless boxlock shotgun produced from 1900 to 1910. Offered as an economy version of the earlier Model 1894, it was made in 10, 12 and 16 gauge with 28, 30 and 32 inch barrels. In Remington's grading scheme the base K grade denoted fluid (Remington) steel barrels, and the E suffix indicated the addition of automatic ejectors, making the KE Grade a steel-barreled gun with auto ejectors, double triggers, a matted top rib and a snap-on forearm.

Remington introduced the Model 1900 as a lower-priced companion to its first hammerless double, the Model 1894, giving turn-of-the-century American sportsmen an affordable boxlock side-by-side. Its snap-on forearm and simple grade lettering made it a common field gun until it was dropped in 1910.

Grade codes: K = Remington fluid-steel barrels, KE = steel barrels with automatic ejectors, KD = two-stripe Damascus barrels, KED = Damascus with ejectors. Serial numbers fell in the 300,000-399,000 range and were often prefixed with a stock letter such as Q. As a black-powder-era design many surviving examples are best kept to light or period-appropriate loads.
